Every law firm needs a strong business development strategy. Rainmakers are the driving force behind firm growth—they generate revenue, attract clients, and sustain long-term success. But rainmakers aren’t born; they’re developed. How does a firm transform a talented law school graduate into a confident business developer? And how can firm leadership ensure that attorneys are systematically learning and mastering rainmaking skills?
Building Rainmakers: The Definitive Guide to Business Development for Lawyers serves as a comprehensive resource for law firm leaders, partners, and associates seeking to build and sustain a culture of business development. This practical guide compiles proven training methods, mentoring frameworks, and actionable insights drawn from interviews with more than thirty leading rainmakers and business development innovators from firms such as Baker McKenzie, Stinson Leonard Street, Duane Morris, Nixon Peabody, and the LawVision Group.
The book outlines a clear, structured mentoring path that helps firms confidently develop, deploy, and measure successful rainmakers. In addition to offering practical techniques for coaching attorneys into effective client generators, it provides measurable metrics to track progress and ensure accountability. In today’s highly competitive legal market, advanced business development skills are no longer optional—they are essential. Building Rainmakers equips law firms with the tools needed to compete and thrive.
