Description
Criminal Law Cases and Materials 10th Edition ISBN 9798892097765
This widely respected casebook provides a dynamic and accessible introduction to the core principles of criminal law, balancing the common law foundations with modern statutory reforms, including the Model Penal Code. Through a carefully curated selection of both classic and contemporary cases, students gain a deep understanding of how criminal liability has evolved and continues to adapt to modern challenges.
The casebook does more than teach doctrine—it immerses students in the pressing debates that shape criminal law today. Topics such as capital punishment, expanded definitions of sexual assault, self-defense claims by battered women, police use of force during arrests, euthanasia, and cultural defenses in criminal culpability provide a real-world context that stimulates critical thinking.
Beyond its case selection, the book stands out for its engaging pedagogical tools. Thought-provoking Notes and Questions help students analyze legal principles in depth, often presenting perspectives that challenge conventional thinking. The inclusion of brain teasers prompts students to wrestle with fundamental moral and philosophical dilemmas, echoing the Preface’s assertion that criminal law grapples with “the Big Questions” that have intrigued philosophers, theologians, scientists, and poets for centuries.

- Late Fees
- Books returned after the semester deadline accrue a weekly late fee of about 10% of the book's Brand New price, for each copy that is overdue. The rent you have already paid counts toward the book's replacement value (its Brand New price), so late fees stop once your rent plus late fees reach it. That replacement value is the most a rental can ever cost you. We email a reminder 48 hours before any charge, and any late fees are charged to the payment method you save at checkout.
- Damage Fees
- Books returned damaged beyond normal classroom wear may be assessed a damage fee, capped at the book's replacement value (its Brand New price). Any damage fees are charged to the payment method you save at checkout after we inspect the returned book.
- Return Shipping
- Returning your book is free: print a prepaid label (USPS or UPS, whichever is cheaper for your package) from your account's My Rentals page, whether you send it back early or on the semester deadline. Cancelling a shipped rental for a refund is different: there, the return label cost comes out of your refund.

- Changed your mind? Cancel an active rental within 30 days of your order from My Account → My Rentals. Cancel before your book ships and it’s free; once it has shipped, we refund the rental price minus a 15% restocking fee and the return label cost, released once we receive your book. Shipping is non-refundable.
