Terms and Conditions

These terms apply when you use frugaltext.com or place an order with FrugalText, a law textbook seller operated from Brooklyn, New York. By creating an account or placing an order, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.
1. Accounts
You must be 18 or older to place an order. Keep your account information accurate and your password private. You are responsible for activity on your account. Tell us right away at info@frugaltext.com if you think someone else has used it.
2. Orders and Payment
Prices are shown in US dollars. Payment is processed by Stripe at checkout. An order is accepted when we confirm it by email. We may cancel an order if a book is unavailable, if the listing had a pricing error, or if we suspect fraud. If we cancel, you get a full refund.
You can cancel any book for free before it ships. There is no cancellation charge and no restocking fee. For rentals, cancel from My Account > My Rentals within 30 days of your order. If the book has not shipped yet we refund the full rental price you paid, and if you cancel every book on the order we refund the shipping too. If the book has already shipped, we deduct a 15 percent restocking fee and the cost of the return label from your refund, and we release the balance once the book is back with us. For purchases, email info@frugaltext.com before the book ships and we will cancel it and refund you in full. Once a book has shipped, the rental rules in Section 4 and the purchase return rules in Section 5 apply instead.
When you rent a book, you authorize us to keep your payment method securely on file with Stripe and to charge it for late fees or unreturned books as described in Section 4 and in our Rental Policy.
3. Shipping
We ship within the United States. Delivery estimates are shown at checkout and in your confirmation email. If an order arrives damaged or does not arrive, email us within 7 days of the expected delivery date and we will make it right with a replacement or a refund.
4. Rentals
- Rental window. Rentals run through the published return deadline for the current semester. Your due date appears at checkout, in your confirmation email, and in your account dashboard.
- Returns. Every rental includes a prepaid return label. A return counts as on time when the carrier scans it by the deadline.
- Grace period. No late fee is charged during the 7 days after the deadline.
- Late fees. After the grace period, a weekly late fee accrues and is charged to the payment method stored with your order. We email you 48 hours before the first charge. Fees stop the day the carrier scans your return.
- Cap. The rent you have already paid counts toward the book’s Brand New purchase price, and late fees stop once your rent plus late fees together reach it. That ceiling is counted per copy, so a rental of two copies has twice the ceiling of one. If a book is never returned, the total amount charged is capped at that replacement value, and the book becomes yours.
- Condition on return. Books must come back in Good condition or better, unless they shipped as Acceptable. Normal highlighting and notes are fine. Water damage, missing pages, or a broken binding may be charged as an unreturned book.
5. Purchases and Returns
Cancelling before your book ships is always free. Email info@frugaltext.com before it ships and we cancel it and refund you in full, with no restocking fee. The rules below apply only once a book has already shipped.
Purchased books may be returned within 30 days of delivery if they are in the same condition you received them. Refunds for purchase returns are subject to a 15 percent restocking fee, and return shipping for purchases is at your cost. Refunds go back to the original payment method after we receive and inspect the book.
If we sent the wrong book, the wrong edition, or a book in worse condition than listed, the return is free and the refund is full. Email us first and we will send a prepaid label.
6. Buyback
You can sell us your used law books through the buyback page. We email a quote within 2 business days. If you accept, we send a prepaid shipping label. Payment goes out by Zelle, Venmo, or PayPal within 3 to 5 business days after your books arrive and pass inspection.
If a book arrives in worse condition than described, we will offer an adjusted price or return the book to you. Quotes expire 14 days after they are sent.
7. Site Content and Intellectual Property
The FrugalText name, logo, and site content belong to FrugalText or its licensors. You may not copy, scrape, or reuse site content for commercial purposes without written permission. Book titles, cover images, and trademarks belong to their publishers and are used to identify the products we sell.
8. Acceptable Use
Do not use the site to do anything unlawful, interfere with the site’s operation, attempt to access other customers’ accounts, or place fraudulent orders. We may suspend or close accounts that break these rules.
9. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability
We work hard to describe every book accurately, but the site and its content are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind beyond those we state here or that the law requires. To the fullest extent the law allows, FrugalText’s total liability for any claim related to an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, such as missed assignments or exam outcomes.
Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer protection law gives you and that cannot be waived.
10. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Disputes will be handled in the state or federal courts located in New York.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when the current version took effect. For a material change, we will email registered customers before it applies. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
