FrugalText sells and rents law textbooks at frugaltext.com. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. Plain English, no surprises.

FrugalText is operated from Brooklyn, New York. Questions about anything on this page can go to info@frugaltext.com.

Information We Collect

We collect the minimum we need to sell you a book, ship it, take a rental back, and answer your questions.

  • Account information. Your name, email address, and password (stored as a secure hash) when you create an account. You can also add a phone number and shipping addresses.
  • Order information. The books you buy or rent, your shipping and billing addresses, rental due dates, and return events.
  • Payment information. Card payments are processed by Stripe. Your full card number never touches our servers. We see only a secure token, the last four digits, and the card’s expiry so you can recognize it on receipts. For rentals, your payment method stays securely stored with Stripe so late fees can be charged if a book is not returned.
  • Support messages. Emails and contact form messages you send us, so we can reply and keep a record of your request.
  • Technical information. IP address, browser and device type, and pages viewed. This comes from standard server logs and analytics.

How We Use Your Information

  • Fulfill and ship your orders, and manage rental returns and buybacks.
  • Send order emails: confirmations, shipping updates, rental due-date reminders, and receipts.
  • Answer support requests.
  • Detect fraud and keep accounts secure.
  • Understand which pages help students so we can improve the site.

Marketing email is optional. We only send it if you opt in, and every marketing email has a one-click unsubscribe link.

Service Providers We Share Data With

We share your information only with the companies that help us run the store:

  • Stripe processes card payments.
  • Shippo and our shipping carriers (such as USPS and UPS) create labels and deliver your books. They receive your name and shipping address.
  • Brevo sends our transactional and newsletter emails. It receives your email address.
  • Our hosting provider stores the site and its database.

Each provider may only use your data to provide its service to us.

We Do Not Sell Your Data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. If a court order or other legal process requires us to produce records, we will comply, and we will tell you first unless the order forbids it.

Cookies and Analytics

We use a small number of first-party cookies for login sessions, your shopping cart, and fraud prevention. We use analytics to count visits and see which pages students use. We do not run third-party advertising pixels.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The cart and login features need cookies to work.

How Long We Keep Data

We keep account and order records while your account is active and as long as we need them for bookkeeping, tax, and fraud-prevention purposes. Support emails are kept so we have context if you write again.

Your Choices and Rights

  • View and edit your account details any time from your account dashboard.
  • Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Ask us to delete your account. Once any open rentals are returned and paid up, we will remove your identifying data, except records we must keep by law.
  • Unsubscribe from marketing email with one click, any time.

Children

FrugalText is for law students and other adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. For a major change, we will email registered customers before it takes effect.
