Description
Bar Exam PT Success: Strategies & Practice 3rd Edition Sara J. Berman ISBN 9798895456101
Bar exams are demanding, multi-day tests that cover numerous subjects in a variety of formats—and they are notoriously stressful. While some components, like multiple-choice questions, feel familiar, others are less so. One of the most important—and often most overlooked—components is the Performance Test (PT). Bar Exam PT Success is designed to help you master this critical part of the exam.
Performance Tests are used in nearly every jurisdiction, including legacy UBE states, NextGen-adopting states, California, and Nevada. PTs can range from 60 minutes to as long as three hours. Bar Exam PT Success equips you with strategies and practice tailored to PTs of every length and format.
The book offers far more than theory. It includes practice PTs modeled on NextGen, California, and Nevada exams, along with access to online resources featuring nearly a dozen additional practice tests—including shorter exercises designed to help you ease into the format and build confidence.
Why focus on the PT?
-
You can prepare early. Students who begin PT training during law school gain a significant advantage during bar review. Those who start after graduation can still build a strong edge by learning how to approach PTs strategically from day one.
-
PTs reflect real legal work. They test practical skills such as reading critically, analyzing materials, and writing clearly—the same skills lawyers use every day.
-
No memorization required. PTs provide libraries of legal authorities, allowing you to research and apply the law during the exam, just as you would in practice.
Learning to succeed on a PT is like learning to ride a bike—once you’ve mastered it, the skill stays with you. PT success depends not on memory, but on method. All it takes are three steps:
-
Understand the exam and the skills it tests
-
Develop a clear, effective strategy
-
Practice consistently
Bar Exam PT Success delivers all three. It explains the PT in a clear, logical way, offers proven test-taking strategies and tools, and provides extensive practice exams with sample answers.
In addition, the book:
-
Builds practical lawyering skills essential for the NextGen bar exam and for real-world practice
-
Helps make law school more engaging by connecting doctrine to hands-on legal tasks
-
Encourages you to think beyond being a student and start seeing yourself as a practicing professional
Through the practice exams, you’ll step into the role of a lawyer representing nearly a dozen clients—handling criminal matters, civil disputes, and business transactions. You’ll draft memos, briefs, affidavits, discovery plans, client letters, closing arguments, and more.
Bar Exam PT Success is an investment in your bar exam performance and your future career. Start training now, build confidence through practice, and be ready for any PT the examiners present. Dive in, embrace the most practical part of the bar exam, and prepare for a successful and meaningful career in law.

-
Free rental returns, whenever you are done
Print a prepaid return label from your account whenever you have finished with the book, and drop it at the carrier listed on the label. Returning early costs you nothing: it is the same free label, and sending it back sooner is welcome. Just be sure it reaches us by the semester deadline to avoid late fees.
-
Purchase returns: 15% restocking fee
Purchases can be returned within 30 days in the condition you received. We will email a prepaid return label; once we receive your book, we refund the purchase price minus the 15% restocking fee and the return label cost. Original shipping is non-refundable.
-
Shipping costs calculated at checkout
Real-time rates are quoted at checkout based on your address and the books in your cart. Returning your book is always free.
Rental Terms
Return by December 28, 2026 for Fall 2026 rentals.
- Late Fees
- Books returned after the semester deadline accrue a weekly late fee of about 10% of the book's Brand New price, for each copy that is overdue. The rent you have already paid counts toward the book's replacement value (its Brand New price), so late fees stop once your rent plus late fees reach it. That replacement value is the most a rental can ever cost you. We email a reminder 48 hours before any charge, and any late fees are charged to the payment method you save at checkout.
- Damage Fees
- Books returned damaged beyond normal classroom wear may be assessed a damage fee, capped at the book's replacement value (its Brand New price). Any damage fees are charged to the payment method you save at checkout after we inspect the returned book.
- Return Shipping
- Returning your book is free: print a prepaid label (USPS or UPS, whichever is cheaper for your package) from your account's My Rentals page, whether you send it back early or on the semester deadline. Cancelling a shipped rental for a refund is different: there, the return label cost comes out of your refund.
- 30-Day Cancellation
- Changed your mind? Cancel an active rental within 30 days of your order from My Account → My Rentals. Cancel before your book ships and it’s free; once it has shipped, we refund the rental price minus a 15% restocking fee and the return label cost, released once we receive your book. Shipping is non-refundable.
