Description
Aspen Treatise for Property 7th Edition Joseph William Singer ISBN 9798894104515
Property Treatise – Thoroughly Updated and Revised
This comprehensive overview of property law presents both foundational doctrines and modern developments covered in the first-year property course in a clear, accessible, and engaging format. The text offers lucid explanations of property principles, supported by illustrative examples, careful analysis of leading cases, and issue-based discussions followed by thoughtfully crafted hypotheticals. Particular attention is given to the significant disagreements among states regarding property rules, with clear explanations of why jurisdictions adopt differing approaches.
With exceptional clarity and insight, Joseph William Singer, joined by Professor Nestor M. Davidson, delivers an authoritative and pedagogically rich treatment of property law. The Seventh Edition has been thoroughly updated and revised to reflect recent legal developments, ensuring that students and instructors are working with current doctrine. The book’s extensive use of examples and hypotheticals deepens understanding and helps illuminate both classic concepts and emerging issues in property law.
Updates in the Seventh Edition include:
-
City of Grants Pass v. Johnson (2024), addressing whether the Eighth Amendment limits the prosecution of unhoused individuals for sleeping in public spaces
-
Significant developments in intellectual property, including clarification of the fair use doctrine in Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Inc. v. Goldsmith (2023)
-
Major Supreme Court rulings on regulatory takings, including Tyler v. Hennepin County (2023), recognizing owners’ rights to surplus equity following tax foreclosure, and Sheetz v. County of El Dorado (2024), holding that legislative exactions are subject to Nollan/Dolan scrutiny
Professors and students will benefit from:
-
Clear, research-based explanations of property doctrines that reflect current law
-
Careful attention to both federal and state statutes governing property use and transfer
-
Extensive hypotheticals that demonstrate how rules and doctrines apply in practice
-
Analysis of challenging cases, including concise summaries of the strongest arguments on both sides
-
Sustained focus on jurisdictional differences and the policy reasons underlying divergent state approaches
Property, Seventh Edition offers a sophisticated yet highly readable treatment of property law, making it an ideal resource for both teaching and learning in today’s first-year curriculum.

Rental Terms
Return by December 28, 2026 for Fall 2026 rentals.
- Late Fees
- Books returned after the semester deadline accrue a weekly late fee of about 10% of the book's Brand New price, for each copy that is overdue. The rent you have already paid counts toward the book's replacement value (its Brand New price), so late fees stop once your rent plus late fees reach it. That replacement value is the most a rental can ever cost you. We email a reminder 48 hours before any charge, and any late fees are charged to the payment method you save at checkout.
- Damage Fees
- Books returned damaged beyond normal classroom wear may be assessed a damage fee, capped at the book's replacement value (its Brand New price). Any damage fees are charged to the payment method you save at checkout after we inspect the returned book.
- Return Shipping
- Returning your book is free with no deduction if it reaches us by your semester return date, or after it's already overdue. Print a prepaid label (USPS or UPS, whichever is cheaper for your package) from your account's My Rentals page. Returning it EARLY, before your semester return date, deducts a 15% restocking fee and the label cost from your refund, the same as cancelling a shipped rental for a refund.
- 30-Day Cancellation
- Changed your mind? Cancel an active rental within 30 days of your order from My Account → My Rentals. Cancel before your book ships and it’s free; once it has shipped, we refund the rental price minus a 15% restocking fee and the return label cost, released once we receive your book. Shipping is non-refundable.
