The author, Daniel L. Barnett, is a Professor of Law and the Director of Legal Writing at the William S. Richardson School of Law, University of Hawaii. Before joining the faculty at Hawaii, he was a corporate and securities lawyer at two major law firms and taught at Boston College Law School and Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. As a nationally-recognized expert on legal writing, he has consulted with a variety of law firms and governmental agencies, focusing on lawyer training. Through this work, he has fothat many beginning lawyers struggle with legal writing because they are unable to effectively apply the skills they acquired in law school to the work environment.
