Description
Criminal Law Cases and Materials 4th Edition ISBN: 9781683284062
This comprehensive criminal law casebook stands out as a pioneering resource, authored by two progressive female law professors of color who bring critical race theory and critical feminist theory into the traditional study of criminal law. While covering all the foundational doctrines typically explored in criminal law courses, this casebook uniquely emphasizes the cultural and societal forces that shape substantive criminal law.
By integrating discussions of race, gender, class, and sexual orientation throughout the text, the casebook eliminates the need for supplemental materials, ensuring that these critical perspectives are not treated as afterthoughts but as central to understanding the law. Students are encouraged to examine how legal doctrines operate in the real world, particularly in their historical and contemporary contexts.
Designed with clarity and engagement in mind, each chapter begins with a succinct doctrinal overview, providing a structured foundation before delving into case analysis and broader theoretical discussions. This approach helps students build a strong conceptual framework, making it easier to grasp complex legal principles while critically evaluating their implications.
With its fresh perspective, rigorous analysis, and student-centered approach, this casebook offers a rich and nuanced understanding of criminal law, making it an indispensable tool for both students and professors committed to exploring the law through a more inclusive and justice-oriented lens.

Simon Nathan –
Criminal law textbooks can be so hit or miss. This textbook had good case selections but seemed to focus on the shocking cases rather than how some of the law more commonly are used. Overall it was a good criminal law book but focused too much on the extremes for me.
